It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Girolamo “Mimmo” Romano, who entered eternal rest on December 22, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of his family at his home.

Mimmo, as he was affectionately known, was born on April 4, 1932, in Misilmeri, Sicily. He was married to his devoted wife, Vincenza Abbate, for 67 years—a union marked by love, commitment, faith, and unwavering partnership. Together, they raised a beautiful family, first in Sicily and later in Brookfield, Illinois, where Mimmo built a life rooted in family, hard work, Sicilian traditions, and a love for gardening and cooking.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mimmo took immense pride in his family. He was known for his strong values, quiet strength, generosity of spirit, and a witty sense of humor. He loved to tell stories of his past—stories of Sicily, family, and life’s challenges—that revealed the experiences that shaped him and the lessons he carried forward. His guidance, wisdom, and steady presence were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

Mimmo carried his Sicilian heritage with pride and instilled in his family the importance of faith, respect, perseverance, and togetherness. He will be remembered for his warmth, his love of family gatherings, his quick wit and storytelling, and the deep sense of responsibility and care he showed to those around him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he cherished above all else.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Giusto Romano.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Vincenza Abbate Romano; his children Antonino Romano (Sharyn), Giusto Romano (Pia), and Gaetana Romano Di Fatta (Vincent); along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.
