Fred C. "Been Fine My Whole Life"
Robinson Jr.
May 23, 1944 — May 19, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fred Charles Robinson Jr (aka Robbie aka Daddy Robbie), 81 of Chicago, IL on May 19th 2026. Fred was born on May 23rd 1944 to Julia McKnight and Fred Robinson Sr.
Fred Robinson was always a vibrant orator, and a very sharp student. As a child he split his time between La Grange, IL and Memphis, TN. He attended University of Indiana for a year before joining the United States Air Force. Fred’s natural charm afforded him the job of working as a family liaison stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. The gift of charisma truly helped keep him out of direct combat.
Upon completing his military service, he returned to his studies at the College of DuPage. His popularity, leadership and engagement on campus was recognized by his peers, who elected him as student body president.
Fred worked in sales, and he was a natural, however music was his true driving force. Fred loooved Cookie Scott and The Chavelles, and even had his own outfit The Persians.
Spending time in churches, and clubs alike, he performed alongside many acts namely Al Green, and Rufus featuring Chaka Khan.
Diane Kuba was smitten by his golden voice, and they married. In 1978, Robbie and Diane welcomed the birth of their beautiful daughter, Alexis Kyle Robinson.
While that first marriage eventually ended, he later won the heart of the saintly Pamela Devereaux. They gave birth to another beautiful baby angel by the name of Angelique Kay Robinson and shortly thereafter a handsome son, Fred (the third), who completed the family.
A dedicated sports fan, he was a fixture on the sidelines, coaching every one of his children's teams whether they liked it or not.
In his twilight years he worked tirelessly for Hyde Park Matters, a non-profit he created in Memphis, TN to give back to the neighborhood that helped raise him.
Fred was a larger than life personality who loved and lived loudly. He loved poker, telling lies and yelling at the TV. He was an armchair coach for the Bulls, White Sox, and the Bears.
Fred will be forever remembered for his jovial spirit, booming voice, and loquacious nature.
He is survived by his three children Alexis (Joe), Angelique (Cortez) and Fred, Aunt Lucille, brothers Theodore (Katie) and Wesley and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
