Donald Lee Kviz

May 25, 1954 — June 18, 2024

Berwyn, Illinois

Donald "Don" Kviz, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024. He was born at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn on May 25, 1954, the youngest son of Fred and Leona and brother to Fred and James Kviz. Don grew up in Chicago and attended Kennedy High School, where his passion for understanding how things worked began to shape his life.

Don was a skilled blue-collar worker, starting his career as a welder after being mentored by someone who saw his potential. He had a knack for building things from steel, often translating blueprints into tangible structures. His curiosity and skill were evident from a young age, always eager to dismantle and learn from mechanical devices like clocks.

After a fulfilling career in welding and various other jobs, Don retired from Home Depot in 2014 upon turning 60. However, retirement didn't slow him down; he continued to create, with his most recent project being a beautiful wishing well for his beloved wife, Virginia.

A passionate fisherman, Don found solace in the tranquility of the Northwoods and cherished annual fishing trips with close friends Bob Dorney, Greg and Sam (his brother-in-law), and late friend Mike Mitchel. These trips were a source of joy and camaraderie throughout his life.

Don married Virginia on November 19, 1995, and shortly after Don adopted Virginia’s son Mike as his own. They made their home in Berwyn, where Virginia still resides. Don enjoyed quiet evenings watching TV in his recliner, accompanied by Virginia and their cherished cats Mona, Missy, Molly, and Mini the Mooch.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Don's spiritual journey was deeply important to him. He and Virginia found strength and guidance in their faith, often watching Christian teachings together, which became a cornerstone of their lives.

On May 25, 2024, Don celebrated his 70th birthday surrounded by family and friends at a fishing-themed party. It was a day filled with laughter and fond memories, making his passing a few short weeks later a reminder of the impact he had on those around him.

Don will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his passion for building and fishing, and his unwavering love for his family and the Lord. He leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Don. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
