Obituary

Barbara Mary Musil (née Reynolds), age 68, of Brookfield, Illinois, passed away on July 17, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Mt. Greenwood.

Barbara was the devoted mother of Ryan Musil, Sean Musil, and Ashley Musil; cherished mother-in-law of Jill Musil and Nicholas Buber; and the proud and loving grandmother of Isla Buber, Jack Buber, and Maeve Musil and the devoted daughter of the late Robert and the late Mary (nee Foran) Reynolds. She was also a beloved aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit.

Barbara dedicated more than 20 years to shaping young minds as a grade school teacher, where her patience, compassion, and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on countless students. Later in life, she embraced a new career as a cardiographics and radiology technician at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Caring for our nation's veterans brought her tremendous fulfillment, and she treasured the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she served.

Family was at the center of Barbara's life. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and nothing made her happier than sharing stories and photos of Isla, Jack, and Maeve with anyone who would listen. She cherished every moment spent with them and took immense pride in watching them grow.

Barbara also had a special love for dogs and was a passionate supporter of animal rescue. She was known for her spunky sense of fashion, always expressing her personality with confidence and flair. Her creativity and thoughtfulness shone through her legendary gift-giving, especially her carefully chosen themed gifts that brought laughter, smiles, and unforgettable memories to family and friends.

Barbara will be remembered for her generous heart, infectious sense of humor, unwavering compassion, and the love she so freely shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through her family, friends, former students, colleagues, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made in Barbara's honor to HALO Havanese Dog Rescue.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
