Allen G. Smith

Allen G. Smith, age 78 of Berwyn. U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, died at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood on April 11, 2023 due to heart failure. Allen lived in Berwyn, IL for over 44 years with his wife Ernestina (Tina Garcia) and their son A.J. (Mary), his grandchildren Payton Johanna and Draven Allen, now in Lombard, IL and Dale (Sadie), now in Orlando, FL. Allen is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Johanna, his brothers Harry Jr. and Donald and twin sisters JoAnn and Carol. He is loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Allen grew up in the Riverdale area of Chicago’s far south side. He graduated from the Chicago Vocational High School (CVS) in 1963, served the U.S. Army Military Police Corp. 1965-1967 and retired as a member of the Printers Union GCIU 458 in January 2005. He worked in various printing companies and met his wife at Rand McNally in Hammond, IN. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last June 2022 and were looking forward to their 51st. God called him home. Allen was an avid motorcycle enthusiast for 50 plus years, loved gardening and home repairs. He was always willing to help anyone as needed. He will be greatly missed by his family, many relatives, countless friends and by his area neighbors.
